Our History as The United Church of Canada, our history as a Nation bears a great stain of cruelty in how we treated the Indigenous people who had been the first people of Canada for thousands of year. The Creation of the Residential school and the abuse and stripping them of family and culture. The United Church was a part of this system. As we live into the United Church's apology and we commit ourselves to building a new future through truth and reconciliation. We encourage people to read the United Church Apologies, the 94 Calls to Action found in the Truth and Reconciliation Document and learn about the Residential Schools. Freelton Strabane is Located on the Traditional Lands of the Attawandaron (Neutral People's) Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples and we are grateful for how they helped our ancestors and ask their forgiveness as we strive to be in a right relationship with them
